Plug & Play diagram for the ATA 186

Recommendation: Place the Cisco ATA 186 near an electrical outlet.

Step 1

Step 1
Plug the telephone into the ATA:

Please connect the RJ-11telephone line to the PHONE 1 jack on the rear panel of the Cisco ATA 186. (Far Left) The PHONE 1 input port is the primary telephone line.

If you only want one telephone line connected to the Cisco ATA, please make sure it is plugged into PHONE 1… otherwise, the system will not recognize the telephone and you will not be able to access a dial tone.

Step 2

Step 2
You can connect a second telephone to the PHONE 2 input by using a second telephone line cord. The PHONE 2 input is the secondary telephone line. You may add this second line at any time.

Step 3

Connect one end of a 10-BaseT Ethernet cable to your hub, switch, or broadband DSL or Cable modem.

Step 4

Step 4
Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to the RJ-45 input port. This port is located on the rear panel just right of the PHONE jacks.

Step 5

Plug the AC power adaptor into an electrical outlet. Plug the power cord into the rear panel of the unit … the plug input is located on the far right on the back panel. Wait 15 seconds and pick up the telephone receiver. If you can hear a dial tone you are ready to place your first call using Cisco ATA 186.

If you do not hear a dial tone, please review the instructions above. Unplug the electrical power for the ATA. After waiting 10 seconds plug in the ATA and check for a dial tone.
